The Aspen Center for Physics is located on four peaceful acres in one of the most beautiful small towns in America. First the summer home of the Ute Indians, then a silver boom town and winter ski town, Aspen became the site of the Goethe Bicentennial in 1949. The Aspen Institute grew from the Bicentennial and the Aspen Center for Physics and the Aspen Music Festival and School soon followed. In 1968, the Physics Center became an independent non-profit corporation and continues to share seventy pastoral acres with the Aspen Institute and the Aspen Music Festival and School in the residential West end of town.

The Center is located on 4.25 acres. Pleasantly landscaped grounds surround its three buildings. It is located at walking distance from downtown Aspen.

In addition to Smart Hall, Stranahan Hall, and Bethe Hall, there are may outdoor spaces, for meeting or socializing. There is a main “lunch” patio, with picnic tables and umbrellas. There are six gas grills nearby, lining the side of Stranahan Hall. There are also benches scattered throughout the lawns on campus. There is a volleyball court, where many physicists play after the weekly barbeques!

If you need a meeting space for your scientific, non-profit group, consider the Aspen Center for Physics. It is available when its summer and winter programs are not in session: mid- September through December, occasional winter weeks and April through the first three weeks of May.
