In honor of their 80th birthdays in 2005, friends and family of Martin and Beate Block established this award. The prize is given annually during the Winter Conferences, with one award in each field. Organizers of each winter conference choose a promising young physicist to receive the Block Award. Martin Block was the founder of the winter conferences, the first of which was held in 1985. Beate Block volunteered many hours to launch winter meetings in the first years. In 2001, Beate authored a cookbook along with local Maggie DeWolfe, “Chaos in the Kitchen Equals Symmetry at the Table,” with all proceeds benefiting the ACP.
