Aspen is a great place to bring your family! There are plenty of things to do. Please see below for some of our suggestions, and check out the “Activites in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley” page as well!
ACP Campus Activities
Dinnertime Family Picnics
Each week, there is a picnic on campus, rain or shine! Bring your food and your family. We provide the grills, watermelon, chips, plates and utensils, along with ditch toys and volleyball.
Public Lectures
Wednesday evenings, we sponsor the free Heinz R. Pagels Lecture Series on exciting research topics in physics. These talks are addressed to non-scientists and are very popular. They are most appropriate for high school kids and above.
Games & Toys
- Fresh notepads and pens in each office hallway
- Volleyball court – younger children play in the sand
- Children’s bikes for rent
- Toys like soccer balls, plastic shovels, and more
- Children bring rubber ducks to float down the streams and pools of water on campus
Cultural Institutions
- The Aspen Music Festival runs throughout the summer. Large orchestral performances are held in the Benedict Music Tent, across the field from the physics campus. Locals sit or walk outside the Tent with small children to experience the music, without needing to sit in a concert hall.
- The Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies is a graphic design museum that can appeal to artistic children and teenage visitors. Guided tours are available.
Walks and Trails
A number of meadow walks and trails connect the Aspen Institute, the Aspen Music Festival buildings, and the Aspen Center for Physics campus. Some lead to Herbert Bayer’s Grass Mound, a Bauhaus earthen artwork and a great place for children to play.
