Meet Our Board
Judy Schramm
After managing two busy medical offices in the Chicago suburbs, Judy switched gears and entered the world of Physics. She was the Director’s Assistant at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Batavia, Illinois. She worked for Robert R. Wilson, the first Director of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) and Leon M. Lederman, the second Director of Fermilab. She was a Founding Board member of Fermilab Friends of Science Education (FFSE). The Lederman Science Center, which centers on pre-college science and math education for students and teachers, evolved from the FFSE.
Judy first came to Aspen to administer a Fermilab Program Advisory Committee meeting at the Given Institute. She fell instantly in love with Aspen. Judy and her late husband, David Schramm, were very involved in the Aspen Center for Physics and at one time David was Chair of the Center. They spent many summers in Aspen and Judy moved permanently to Aspen after David’s untimely death in 1997. Together, Judy and David had 6 children and 7 grandchildren.
Since becoming a full-time resident of Aspen, Judy became the Founder and Chair of The Forest Conservancy, a non-profit partner with the US Forest Service. They now number 130 volunteers who hike, in Forest Service uniform, the many trails in the Roaring Fork Valley with a mission of protecting and preserving the White River National Forest.
Judy is very involved with the Aspen Thrift Shop, serving on the Board and the Executive Board. And, since 2015, Judy has been a General Board Member of the Aspen Center for Physics.
